Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice

LSUA’s new baccalaureate program in criminal justice prepares students for positions in law enforcement, probation and parole, corrections, forensics, law, the judicial system, private security, and homeland security. The program also provides an excellent foundation for those students who intend to apply to law school. The new degree also offers the only penology course in Louisiana that specifically deals with the federal prison system, a major employer in the university's service area. The B.S. in Criminal Justice, which builds upon LSUA's successful associate degree program, is coordinated by Beth Whittington, a former criminal investigator in the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Department and a member of the LSUA faculty since 1994. It is anticipated that many students who already hold a criminal justice associate degree will return to LSUA to obtain a B.S. for career advancement. Applicants for federal jobs in criminal justice are typically mandated to hold a baccalaureate degree.
